I decided to donate some clothes that I have not worn in awhile and I threw a black dress jacket in the wash to see how it would turn out. The cotton material is thick and durable and not one button has fallen off or a seam had to be mended. Out of curiosity I checked the tags to see where it was made as this garment is years old and has taken me on quite a few job interviews.
I thought maybe it might be made in Mexico as their quality wasn't too bad either but low and behold this jacket was made in Canada.
Ahhh the days that we could count on quality and not be afraid of the products we buy. That jacket was market value at the time, meaning that it was affordable even on my wages. Why is it that we are paying just as much for things that you can't vouch for the quality?
I don't think that the WTO has our interests at heart. I don't see any gain or a better quality of life for my country or other participating countries. I see job loss and a lowered standard of living for many people. More struggle just to survive. Underage kids going to work and being exposed to toxic chemicals. Is this what was sold to us with these trade deals?
Only those at the top of the food chain seem to be deriving any benefit. What about the rest of us?
